Brock Lee

Milly and I have been working on our pick a path Brock Lee and have finally finished it. We planed out our story then we started to make our slides and added links, then we finally wrote in our story and published it.  

My speech

Technology

Last week when we went to tech then  I realised how far behind I was. Why did it have to be cross country the week before. So as usual Mr Bain would show us some tools and then how to put our lights together then we could go off and start doing what we would need to.

I started to run through the list in my head. You need to cut out the coconut trees and the coconuts and the sun you still have to paint your background and the turtle I completely forgot about the turtle. So I had to make that cut it out and paint it. Some people are almost finished. I started to stress myself out. Ok just think for a second what do you need to do first. I made my way over to the band saw. My hands stared to wobble as I turned the machine on. I was so nervous that I was going to stuff it up. I had almost finished when we had to go out for break.

We all rushed back into the classroom. Soon my safety glasses were back on and I was cutting again. I made my way back to the work bench with two neatly cut coconut trees and five coconuts. I laid them out on the board. that's one thing done. I grabbed my trees and went to the paint table. My paint brush slid through the creamy paint I just made.

Hot air rushed out of the heat gun. My arm started to get sore after a while from holding the gun up so high. "Darn-it '' the paint started to crack. I went back to the paint table there was a little of my paint left over. '' Time to pack up every body'' I quickly slapped some more paint on and left them on the table to dry.

On the bus I thought of the order I needed to do things next week. I really need to do that turtle.

A few days ago I started to sketch a rose bud. I did a little bit when I got some spare time. and I finished this evening. I hope to get some more drawings done by the end of the year.

 

 

Tri schools cross country 

Take your marks... Get set... Anticipation  was building up inside of me. BANG. The clappers slapped together. It was a mix between a sprint and a run confused how fast I should be starting. I slipped in behind Katie everyone could tell she had already won before we had even started. We ran up the mud slush hill, trying to doge the ankle rolling holes and ledges leading to a confusing pathway down. Around the gorse under the trees finally a break from the burning sun. Come on keep going you can do it just keep a good pace doesn't matter where you come just finish I kept repeating these words in my head. We came to miss Hanna come on girls strait up the hill "What? why are we going up the hill" said Katie. "I thought we were supposed to go around the corner." I said. "Ohh no girls sorry your ment to around the corner". "Dang it  this is so dumb" Katie grumbled. We came back around the corner to see that everyone had caught up now we were only just in front exasted from climbing the hill. We came back around and through the start line. Now came the big laps! Up mudd slush hill again trough the trees. This was supposed to be the time we were ment to be going strait but I had already done this. I was ok until I saw the ginormous hill we were going to climb and then started to think we had to run it twice. After another lap I was coming on to the last lap thank goodness that it was a small one. Come on almost done I kept on saying to myself you can do it. Then I was wondering what we were going to have for tea. My day dreaming was interrupted by Holly P, Emma and Jess yelling at me "come on Annabelle hurry up you can do it." I came to the last stretch before the finish. I started to sprint putting the last of my energy into the finish. I came in fifth I was happy with me result but maybe I need to pratice a bit more. I am nervous and excited to be going to Rakahuris tomorrow. 

Clubs

Last week on Friday we started clubs. I chose animation/film making I've chosen this because I thought it would be nice to try something new and step out of my comfort zone. 

I wasn't expecting that we were going to take lots of photos and play them back I thought that we were just going to take one video.

I was really surprised that I enjoyed film making Emma and I were working together we made two movies. Our objects/characters were made of clay. We made a chocolate chip cookie that gradually got eaten and the same with a cupcake. It was cool with the onion skin which was when you took a photo it would have a faded photo that stayed on the screen so you could see your hand moving for the next shot. It was also handy so you could put the object in the right place.

Next time we want to try and draw a picture and have it slowly move.

In our group we have been describing a picture of Mahtab but it only shows her eyes. So we had to tell where she was and what emotions she is feeling and what she is physically feeling. I have worked on mine for a while her it is.



She stands motionless in the shadows. Anger boils inside of her, she is helpless, and is desperate to fight back, but is trapped knowing if she leaves she will have a slow painful death. Tears well up in her eyes battling the pain of watching innocent beings being torchured. The revolting stench of rotting flesh swirls around her head, nausea flows over her. She brushes against the rough stony surface of the building her breath becoming faster as nervousness rushes through her. She begins to feel sick.

All she wants, is to get away from everything. She feels like screaming but she can't. Things were beginning to unravel about to burst. Mahtab had revealed a part of herself that she had never known. Then she let go tears, flooded out of her eyes she gasped,
 “I never asked for any of this all I want is to see my dad again”.

War food

Me and Holly P have been working on a Google slide about what the soldiers ate in the war recipes and their cooking facilities. We made a new design of what they might use nowadays if an other war happened and we also made an old version of a cooker out of cans and other items.

Mt Richardson

We all clambered into the bus we had a long climb ahead of us. We were climbing mount Richardson.   As we got of the bus people were complaining about how they didn't want to climb Mt Richardson and others just wanted it over and done with. We numbered of Holly M wasn't so keen on this and kept complaining ohh why can't go now this stupid we don't have to number off! Eventually we started to make our way up. It was all fine until we left the junior track then things became more difficult gladually the climb was becoming steeper and steeper soon we were stretching our legs to the fullest to reach the next foot hold ten minutes of doing this and our legs were beginning to burn. But this was nothing compared to climbing up the summet!! Finally we sitting on the top of the mountain. Me and my good friends Holly P and Emma took a photo at the summet by the sign. And what seemed an eternity  later  everyone finally arrived. Then we were off again on the steep track down.  I thought this would be much better but actually hurt you knees after jumping for ages. Finally we were down again after a few falls and a lot of laughs. It was fun but very challenging.

Technology

 

Today was our second lesson of technology this term with Mr Bain. This week he showed us how to use a band saw, a drill press and a soldering iron. then we finished of our good plans and started to copy them on to our wooden background for our steady hand game. I am doing a turtle on a beach. and I am really looking forward to getting started on the drilling and sawing and seeing the finished product.  

PAL'S

Last week me and holly P did another session of PAL'S with the j. PAL'S stands for physical activity leaders. We played lots of different games. like cat and mouse cops and robbers and other games. I think the kids liked it because we let them choose some games this time. I am really enjoying PAL'S and I am looking forward to playing games with the seniors next time.  

Technology

This week is our second lesson of our new class we are now in woodwork. last week we met our teacher Mr Bain. We spent our lesson talking about safety and the speech used in wood tech. like what stakeholders were and things like that. Then we talked about what our big project was, and started to draw some ideas on a piece of paper. Then we chose a idea and drew it on an other piece of paper which was our good copy. I am doing a turtle on a beach. This week we should be starting to make our projects.         

Reading

We have just started  new reading technique about four or five people are reading the same book. In my group we have been reading Mahtab's story. It is about a girl and her family escaping from turkey to get to Australia. They had to leave because it was becoming to dangerous because women and children were not allowed out of the house or out in public any more and kids weren't allowed to learn or go to school and the taliban had taken Matab's  father and grandfather her dad had came back bruised and bloodied but her grandfather was killed. So their family left in the middle of the night hiding under furniture in the back of a truck over the mountains to Pakistan. I have just read up to the part where they arrived at a house where they will stay until they catch a plane to Malaysia. I wouldn't usually read this but is a great book.           

Technology

On Thursday the fourth of February the year sevens and eights travelled to Rangiora Borough school for the first session of technology for the year. Ashley school  is participating with us. This is an exciting experience for the year sevens as they did not get to take part in technology last year.  Each year group was assigned to one of the four subjects, wood work, soft materials, food tech and visual design. We will rotate each term to a new activity throughout the year.
